Anne Arundel Lawmaker Pleads Guilty To Tax Charge

BALTIMORE (AP) -- An Anne Arundel County councilman has pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to file a tax return.

Prosecutors say Daryl D. Jones admitted on Tuesday in federal court that he failed to file personal income returns for four years and quarterly business payroll tax returns for six.

Jones faces a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a $25,000 fine. Prosecutors say Jones has also agreed to pay restitution of more than $108,000.

Court records say the Democrat from Severn received gross income of $244,365 in 2005 and failed to file a tax return before the April 17, 2006, deadline.

Jones is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 28.
