New Developments In The Case Of Md. Woman Missing In Aruba

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- There are brand new developments in the case of a Frederick woman who vanished in Aruba more than a month ago. Analysts now suggest that police may be running out of leads.

The  prime suspect in her disappearance continues to fight for his release.

Adam May has more on the case.

Authorities in Aruba made a fresh plea to the public for any information on Gary Giordano. Jailed for nearly a month, Giordano has yet to be charged with a crime and he denies any wrongdoing.

He's now challenging a ruling which extended his incarceration by 60 days. His attorney says he plans to appeal on Monday before a three-judge panel.

Giordano, 50, says it all began as a snorkeling trip with his 35-year old traveling companion, Robyn Gardner. But it ended with her disappearance and his arrest.

"I feel in my heart that something happened at this person's hand," Richard Forester, Gardner's boyfriend, said.

Gardner's boyfriend fears the worst, and Aruban authorities presume Garner is dead.

Back in Maryland, federal agents scoured Giordano's Gaithersburg home at the request of the Aruban government.

"The search is being conducted pursuant to a criminal investigation," the FBI said.

The pair headed to Aruba after meeting online. But after Gardner's disappearance, Giordano reportedly stood to gain $1.5 million in insurance money through a policy he bought specifically for their five-day trip. He apparently tried to cash it in just two days after she went missing.

Legal experts say police seem to be hinting at conflicting motives.

"Part of the problem here is there are two different theories," criminal defense attorney Roy Black said. "Are they saying that he premeditated this and got the insurance policy and intended to kill her? Or did they have an argument because he got jealous and at the last minute, ended up killing her."

In the last 24 hours, Aruban police have also released surveillance pictures of a small white car. It may have been in the area where the couple was reportedly snorkeling.
