National Zoo To Host Birthday Party For Lion Cubs
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The National Zoo is planning a special celebration this week to celebrate the first birthday of its seven lion cubs.
On Wednesday morning, animal keepers will present the cubs with wrapped presents containing individual "bloodcicles." They are frozen treats made of blood and bones.
The cubs were born in two litters last year on Aug. 31 to lion mother Shera and on Sept. 22 to lion mother Nababiep after years of careful research by the zoo's specialists. The cubs are named John, Fahari, Zuri, Lelie, Baruti, Aslan and Lusaka.
