Ex-United Way Worker Pleads Guilty To Wire Fraud

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Baltimore woman has pleaded guilty to wire fraud in connection with a scheme to steal more than $375,000 from the United Way of Central Maryland.

According to the plea agreement, Dorothy Shields Talbot, 48, was supposed to close a checking account for employee activities. She instead deposited donor checks into that account instead of into a corporate account. Prosecutors and the FBI announced the guilty plea on Thursday.

Talbot admitted that from December of 2004 through December 2010 she withdrew money from the checking account and used it for herself. She faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.

She is also required to pay back the money she is accused of stealing.
