O'Malley Speaks At Homeland Security Symposium
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Gov. Martin O'Malley says Maryland has come a long way in improving homeland security over the last decade, but much remains to be done.
O'Malley spoke Friday at a homeland security symposium in Baltimore marking the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
The governor was briefed late Thursday night about a credible but unconfirmed terror threat against New York and Washington learned of by U.S. officials. O'Malley was briefed by a state center in which local, state and federal authorities work together.
O'Malley said during the speech that Maryland has improved first responder communication capabilities, and a statewide system should be complete by the end of next year. He also said the state has 8,400 closed-circuit cameras in place to improve security.
