WASHINGTON (AP) — A judge has sentenced a former District of Columbia resident to seven years in prison for obtaining and using the identity of a Maryland woman.

James T. Dillard was sentenced Wednesday in D.C. Superior Court, after being convicted last September of first-degree identity theft and first-degree theft. Prosecutors say Dillard in 2004 used the woman’s name, address, birthday and Social Security number to open a cell phone account with Sprint.

Prosecutors say Dillard was using the phone he had obtained with the woman’s name and eventually had the bills routed to a vacant home two doors from his residence in northwest Washington.

Dillard has been ordered to pay restitution to the phone company and $3,000 in court costs.
