Montgomery Council To Discuss Curfew At Work Session

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The Montgomery County Council's public safety committee is holding a work session on a countywide curfew for minors proposed by County Executive Isiah Leggett.

The proposed measure would ban anyone under 18 in public places starting at midnight on weekends and 11 p.m. during the week. First offenders would be fined $100. The committee will discuss the bill at the work session on Thursday morning.

Leggett proposed the curfew, citing increased gang activity and crime involving minors. He says the bill is similar to laws in Prince George's County and the District of Columbia. Committee chairman Phil Andrews opposes the bill.
