Woman, 72, Spared Jail Time After Shooting Husband

SNOW HILL, Md. (AP) -- A 72-year-old woman who shot her husband point-blank after an argument has received a suspended sentence in a plea deal.

Alice Carmita Johnson of Bishopville pleaded guilty to assault. She had been charged with second-degree attempted murder after shooting her husband with a pistol in May.

According to the Daily Times of Salisbury, police say her husband, Robert Lee Leonard, called 911 after he had been shot. The two had been married for six months.

Leonard survived and filed for divorce.
