Fire In Southwest Baltimore Kills Woman, 2 Children

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Three people are dead after a fire in Southwest Baltimore.

Weijia Jiang has the latest.

A massive fire destroyed 11 rowhomes in Southwest Baltimore, in and out.  Several families were left with nowhere to live and nothing to take away. For one, the loss is the ultimate price of destruction.  A 37-year-old pregnant woman and her two boys, ages 7 and 12, are dead.

At the scene, loved ones were distraught.

"Smoke everywhere from here to all of the way down the block. It was terrible," said Ikeyisha, neighbor.

The fire erupted around 1:30 a.m. Thursday on the 600-block of South Pulaski Street. Nearly 100 firefighters took on the flames, which quickly spread from porch to porch.

Chelsea Milligan's house has been condemned.

"I don't even know if we're going to be able to walk back into it. We're looking for somewhere else to live," she said.

Investigators have much work to do to answer what caused the fire, as a neighborhood copes with the devastating loss.

"It hurts the block that one of their neighbors passed, and two small children.  Children shouldn't have to die.  Nobody should have to bury their child or grandchild," said Milligan.

Six of the homes have been condemned.

At this point, it's unclear how or where the fire started.
