New Assistant Police Chief Named In Montgomery Co.

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- A Montgomery County police commander has been approved as a new assistant chief for the department.

Russell Hamill's promotion was approved Tuesday by the County Council. He had been nominated for the position by County Executive Isiah Leggett.

Hamill joined the department in 1986 and has served since then in various capacities, mostly recently as commander of the Second District in Bethesda.

He starts in his new assignment on Wednesday. Police Chief J. Thomas Manager says Hamill brings significant
experience and knowledge to the job, and has repeatedly demonstrated leadership.
