Chemical Containers From Pa. Plant Dot Chesapeake
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Large chemical containers from a Pennsylvania plant are being found around the Chesapeake Bay where they were washed downstream by flood waters.
Maryland Department of the Environment spokesman Jay Apperson says the cylinders are about 6 feet long and 3 feet in diameter, some painted yellow or green.
John Ederer, a spokesman for chemical distributer Univar, told The Capital of Annapolis the containers washed away from a Harrisburg plant after a nearby creek breached a fence. Ederer says the containers are believed to have been empty when they washed away.
About 10 have been found so far, including at Hart-Miller Island in Baltimore County and spots on both sides of the Bay Bridge.
Ederer says containers of various sizes washed away, and about 20 are still missing.
