WASHINGTON (AP) — Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley says New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie would bring “tremendous entertainment value” but little substance to the presidential race if he were to seek the Republican nomination.

O’Malley, chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, knocked Christie’s record in New Jersey in an appearance Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

O’Malley says Christie has struggled to create jobs, pointing to New Jersey’s 9.4 percent unemployment rate. He also notes that New Jersey’s bond rating has been downgraded, and its schools have slipped in national rankings.

Appearing alongside O’Malley, Republican Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour said the Maryland governor’s comments indicate “how afraid the Democrats are of Chris Christie.”

The New Jersey governor has resisted becoming a candidate, but those close to him have said he is reconsidering his decision.
