Washington Co. Humane Society Offering Vouchers

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The Humane Society of Washington County is offering vouchers to residents on public assistance.

Each voucher is good for $50 toward the cost of a veterinary exam and vaccination that includes the parvovirus inoculation.

A community outbreak of canine parvovirus had shelter officials worried that people are not vaccinating their dogs because of the expense.

The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports that the money for the program comes from a grant through an anonymous foundation.

Resident can apply for the vouchers by calling or going to the shelter on Maugansville Road. Applicants must provide proof of public assistance.
