Man Dies In Confrontation With Baltimore Police

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore police say a man has died after exchanging gunfire with a police officer responding to a domestic violence call.

Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says police responded to a call Saturday morning around 1:40 a.m. reporting that a man had shot his wife in east Baltimore. When officers arrived in the 1800 block of Hope St. they found the man armed with a gun.

Baltimore police Col. Jesse Oden says the man shot at an officer who responded, and the officer returned fire, striking the suspect several times and fatally wounding him.

The man's 51-year-old wife was found shot in the neck and taken to the hospital. Her condition was unknown.
