911 Calls Released In Wal-Mart Bleach Fight

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- A woman stands accused of assaulting another woman with cleaning chemicals at a Wal-Mart. The attack prompted numerous calls to 911 from shoppers caught in the melee.

Adam May obtained one of those calls.

A Wal-Mart in Baltimore County was full of shoppers Saturday when suddenly a fight broke out in aisle 11, which was stocked with cleaning products.

Dispatcher: "Baltimore County 911, what's the address of the emergency?"
Caller: "There's a fight in the middle of Wal-Mart on Washington Boulevard. You need to get some radio cars up here quick."

Police got numerous calls describing the fight between Theresa Jefferson and another woman.

Dispatcher: "Are there any weapons involved?"
Caller: "No, but they are using chemicals to throw at each other."
Dispatcher: "And they're hitting each other?"
Caller: "Yeah. Throwing chemicals, liquid bleach, yeah."
Dispatcher: "Throwing bleach at each other?"
Caller: "Yeah."

The victim, Ebony Odoms, escaped and ran to the bathroom with burning eyes. Almost 20 other shoppers were treated for exposure to a toxic cloud of chemicals.

"It's extremely serious, an act in the middle of a public place," said prosecutor John Cox.

At a bail review Tuesday, prosecutors argued Jefferson remains a danger to the victim and her boyfriend but the boyfriend's own father sides with Jefferson.

"I'm not gonna defend my son when he's wrong," said Fred Culp.

Court records reveal Calvin Pannell and Jefferson have a child together. They also have a history of disputes, according to her defense attorney.

"I think it's also telling that Ms. Jefferson went to the police station to complain about these people harassing her, one of whom is on probation for assaulting her," said Warren Brown, defense attorney.

Everyone treated for injuries in the attack has been released from the hospital.
