Korean War Vets In Washington Co. Seek Monument Funds

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Some Washington County Korean War veterans say they're seeking private and public funds for a monument to those who served.

The Herald-Mail newspaper reports that a local Korean War Veterans Association chapter was set to make a presentation Tuesday to the Hagerstown City Council.

Association member Charles Mobley says they aim to raise about $70,000 for a granite marker. It would be placed on Mealey Parkway in the city's North End.

Mobley says the group hopes to dedicate the monument on July 27, 2013. That's the 60th anniversary of the war's end.
