Police Investigating Rape Of 13-Year-Old Girl

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—A  13-year-old girl becomes the victim of rape in East Baltimore. She was snatched off the street and dragged into an abandoned house.

Weijia Jiang has new information from police that could help catch the attacker.

Baltimore City police are looking for a rapist. Even they say the most troubling part is how young the victim is.

Police released a composite sketch of the man they believe is responsible. Police need your help finding a suspected rapist, who they say grabbed and dragged a 13-year-old girl inside a vacant house around 9 p.m. Monday, and then forced her to have sex.

Investigators say it happened when was walking alone in the 800-block of East Baltimore's Caroline Street.

"I have a 13-year-old daughter and ooh, that would just flip my wig back for someone to do that to my daughter," said Angela Harris, neighbor. "It's too many people out here perverted, doing any and everything to young children."

Detectives are scouring the area for surveillance video and witnesses.

Police say the suspect is between 45 and 50 years old, 5'3", weighing 180 pounds. He has a mustache and was wearing a black skull cap with a grey sweatshirt.

Police say after she was raped, the victim was able to leave the scene and go to a nearby house to call 911 for help.

"This is particularly troubling because of the victim's age," said Detective Kevin Brown, Baltimore City Police. "That said we will, as in all cases, investigate it thoroughly."

The police department recently overhauled the way sexual assault cases are handled after an investigation by WJZ's media partner the Baltimore Sun revealed the city was No. 1 in the nation in unfounded rape reports.

"We at the BPD need to do things differently and to better ensure all victims who report sexual assault have their complaints fully investigated," said Commissioner Fred Bealefeld, Baltimore City Police.

Back at the latest scene, neighbors want the suspect behind bars. Many are now scared to walk around.

"I'm looking because you never know who will come up out here. It's dangerous out here. Point blank," said Doris Thompson, neighbor.

Police say the 13-year-old victim was treated and released from the hospital. At this time police say it's unclear what she was doing at the scene by herself.
