BALTIMORE (WJZ)– Dozens of students spent the day exercising on the field at M&T Bank Stadium.

Andrea Fujii explains it’s a national initiative.

Students got an athlete’s welcome onto the Ravens home field. About 100 students from Federal Hill Preparatory School are participating in the first-ever Tri-Ravens tournament.

The various athletic games promote Play 60, the NFL movement to get kids active for an hour a day.

“Exercising is good for you,” said Zoe Brown, a third-grader. “It helps you.”

To show the children how important physical activity is, Ravens players Torrey Smith, Tandon Doss and Cary Williams played along.

“We love Baltimore,” said Smith, Ravens wide receiver. “And for us to have the opportunity to give back, talk to ‘em about being in good physical shape and just have fun.”

“They take a lot of emphasis on academics in school,” said Doss, Ravens receiver. “But they need to focus on staying healthy and being in shape and living a healthy lifestyle.”

This is all part of an NFL initiative. All 32 teams across the country are participating in similar activities.

Students say it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play with the Ravens on their field and they’ll never forget what being healthy is all about.

“Playing games, exercising and having fun,” said Xzai Johnson, fourth-grader.

The NFL and United Way sponsored Tuesday’s nationwide events.
