Slain Baby's Mom Sentenced To A Year In Jail
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The mother of a baby girl who was fatally abused by the child's father has been sentenced to a year in jail for failing to protect her daughter.
Jessica Peavy, 21, of Hopatcong, N.J., was sentenced Thursday. Peavy will also serve one year of supervised probation.
She pleaded guilty in September to second-degree child abuse stemming from the death of 2-month-old Lexi Zirinsky. The girl died last November when the family was living in Brunswick.
Jason Zirinsky, 26, is serving a 30-year sentence for child abuse resulting in death. Court records describe multiple injuries, inflicted over a number of weeks.
