Md. Officials Announce 'Hotels For Heroes' Bill
BALTIMORE (AP) -- U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin and Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger are proposing a bill to expand a program that enables people to donate frequent-flier miles to military families.
They said Monday that the expansion would extend the program to hotel stays.
Ruppersberger originated the concept in 2003. The program is administered by the nonprofit Fisher House Foundation.
The foundation says it has provided 25,000 airplane tickets to injured service members and their families, with a total value of nearly $40 million.
