Salazar To Join D.C., Md. Officials To Discuss River

BLADENSBURG, Md. (AP) -- Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar is joining Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley and District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray in celebrating the completion of more than 13 miles of Anacostia Riverwalk Trail and the ongoing work to restore the river.

The state and federal officials are meeting Friday in Bladensburg to discuss the effort to restore the Anacostia watershed and improve public access to the river.

The Anacostia River Watershed also has been selected as one of seven pilot projects in the Urban Waters Federal Partnership to revitalize urban waterways in low-income communities.

The Anacostia Riverwalk Trails will eventually offer nearly 60 miles of contiguous trails that will connect the district and Maryland.
