Rawlings-Blake Wins Race For Baltimore Mayor

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—It's official. Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake wins the general election and gets her first full term as mayor.

Andrea Fujii has reaction from the mayor and her supporters.

She and her party won Tuesday's general election, and now the party is on for the mayor.

Supporters are fired up as Mayor Rawlings-Blake wins her first mayoral election.

"I hope that people see the potential in the city that I do and that they're willing to work with me to get there," Rawlings-Blake said.

The mayor took the job nearly two years ago when Mayor Sheila Dixon resigned amid perjury charges.

And though turnout was low, supporters are optimistic.

"It's a great victory for the mayor to have a full term after an election," said Del. Keiffer Mitchell Jr., D- Baltimore City.

The mayor says she has little time to celebrate. A $50 million city budget shortfall and other pressing issues demand her attention.

"I guess we have to wait until we get the mayor's recommendations, but $50 million is a huge amount of money," said City Councilwoman Rikki Spector.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake defeated Republican challenger Alfred Griffin III.

The mayor says she and the Baltimore City delegation are preparing their wish list for the state legislature in January.
