Man Gets Life For Killing Catonsville Convenience Store Customer, Shooting Owner

CATONSVILLE, Md. (WJZ)—Justice for two Catonsville families after a Baltimore County judge sentences a man convicted of killing one man and shooting another in cold blood.

It was an execution style murder. In November 2009, 34-year old Braderick Greene walks into the Your's convenience store in Catonsville, shoots and kills customer Brian Meise, and then robs the clerk and shoots him in the face.

"If I think about it I'll just wonder why, why it had to be that way," said Jane Bowen.

The brutal way her son was killed is still hard for Bowen to bear. On Wednesday, she and her daughter were in court as a judge sentenced Greene to life in prison without parole.

"It doesn't bring Brian back, but some justice has been served here," said Elaine Monet, victim's sister.

Bowen says Greene showed no remorse.

"Grinning, laughing, just leaning way back in the chair like what else is new," said Bowen, describing Greene's demeanor in court.

Sudhir Shah survived after Greene shot him in the face, but the store owner still struggles physically and emotionally.  

"I try to forget this whole thing but still more and more things come in my mind," Shah said.

Days after the murder, police arrested Greene after a shootout with officers in Baltimore City. It marked the end of his extensive criminal career.

"He's just made it a habit of hurting people all his life," Bowen said.

Meise's family believes when it comes to Greene the court system failed.

"It should have never happened because the justice system has given him so many chances in his lifetime," Bowen said.

The families hope Wednesday's sentence ensures Greene doesn't hurt anyone else.

Greene was previously sentenced to 11 life sentences for the city shooting-- in addition to Wednesday's two life sentences-- for murder and attempted murder.

Greene's defense attorney is appealing both convictions. On Wednesday a judge denied her request for a new trial.
