Md. Woman Dies After Catching Fire In Backyard

MOUNT AIRY, Md. (AP) -- The Frederick County Sheriff's Office says a Mount Airy woman is dead after she caught fire in her backyard.

Cpl. Jennifer Bailey said Thursday that 57-year-old Leslie Thornburg died Wednesday evening at the Bayview Burn Center in Baltimore.

Bailey says the cause of the fire remains under investigation. She says gasoline was found in the area where Thornburg caught fire Tuesday afternoon.

Thornburg also ignited minor fires in her garage and home when she went inside seeking help.

Her 84-year-old father suffered a minor burn to his right hand when he tried to extinguish the fire on his daughter.
