Man, Woman Die Trying To Escape Southwest Baltimore House Fire

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Violent flames tear through a Southwest Baltimore row home. Witnesses describe a horrifying scene of people trapped inside screaming for help.

Adam May reports.

Baltimore City firefighters arrived at the house on Fulton Avenue less than three minutes after someone called 911, but it was too late for the people inside.

"We understand there were two people on the third trying to escape unfortunately they didn't make it," a fire official said.

Witnesses could only watch and listen to the screams for help and a glimpse of one of the victims.

"The smoke was very big and cloudy, before the flames exploded out a window where I saw her arm sticking out at," said Terrell Mayfield, an eyewitness.

The medical examiner will conduct autopsies on the male and female to determine the cause of death.

Right now, firefighters are still determining the cause. The victims have not been identified.
