More Information Released About Baltimore ATF Raid

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- There's new information in the ATF raid that ended in a crash along Patapsco Avenue.

Mary Bubala reports we now know who they were after and why.

ATF agents moved in to arrest a group of six men we now know were reportedly planning a home invasion and a robbery to steal cocaine that belonged to a Mexican drug cartel. According to a federal criminal complaint, 25-year-old Dawron Kip Mason met with an undercover ATF agent in a Baltimore YMCA parking lot to set up the robbery. The agent, who was wearing a wire, caught the suspect saying he had a "couple of dudes that will go straight in there, knock them off."

But before that could happen, ATF agents moved in. Mason and five other men attempted to get away, driving recklessly before crashing.

Authorities say inside that white Ford Explorer, they found a .9 millimeter Glock pistol, a .38 caliber revolver and a .45 caliber handgun.

All the men have criminal records and are now charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance and conspiracy to possess a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

The ATF says that its goal was to disrupt, arrest and prosecute the most violent criminals in select cities across the nation.

An ATF agent was injured in the raid. He's now out of the hospital.
