Metro Police Take New Steps To Thwart Crime

WASHINGTON (AP) — Metro police say their new tactics against crime have led to dozens of arrests of potential bicycle thieves and robbery suspects.

Metro Transit Police Chief Michael Taborn said in a news release that police are doing a great job in addressing crime and keeping customers safe. Other arrests have been for simple assault and drug and weapons possession.

Police say on Monday night, a teenager was arrested after trying to take a bicycle parked outside of the Prince George’s Plaza station. The bicycle actually was a decoy owned by authorities and police in plain clothes were nearby.

Officials say the new tactics were put into use about a month ago. Yet authorities are asking people to remain cautious and take steps to protect themselves and their property.
