Basin At Naval Academy Closed By Sewage Leak

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Anne Arundel County Health officials have closed a basin along the Severn River because of a sewage leak.

The Naval Academy's Santee Basin, which midshipmen use for boating and training, was closed Saturday after it was contaminated by a broken sewage pipe.

Officials say the leak has been stopped and the sewer line is being repaired, but the area will remain closed until it is deemed safe.

The academy prohibits fishing, crabbing and swimming at the basin. It has posted signs warning passersby of the contamination.
