DECO Wins Mammoth Manic Monday Meltdown 2011

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- If you were in Fells Point you probably noticed a lot of people around the square in front of Jimmy's Restaurant Monday morning, as a big crowd turned out to crown a new champion at the 13th annual Mammoth Manic Monday Meltdown.

Ron Matz reports nearly 81,000 people voted on WJZ.com to choose this year's winner.

"Six o'clock already. I was just in the middle of a dream."

The song remains the same, but each year there is more and more excitement at the Mammoth Manic Monday Meltdown.

The Egyptian Sun dancers made it to the finals.

"We had a lot of fun putting our dance together," said Dori Wittham, Egyptian Sun Productions. "Being able to come back and show our support for the city of Baltimore since our group is in Baltimore, it was awesome."

Throughout the morning, the crowd got bigger and bigger and bigger.

"The turnout is great. Thank you all for coming. This is what it's about--people connecting with people throughout," said WJZ Vice President/General Manager Jay Newman, as he welcomed the crowd.

Spirit awards went to Morgan State Head Start and Oliver Beach Elementary.

"We're very surprised and very happy," said Marge Hardester, Oliver Beach Elementary School. "We love doing Manic Monday. We do it to build up school spirit. It was a lot of fun."

"We just have a fantastic program and fantastic parents and staff," said Angie Jones, family service coordinator of Morgan State Head Start. "We're just in awe to receive this. We are very happy."

Team DECO took home the Valentino.

"We are so excited to win this award," said Godlee Davis, DECO. "This is one of the most fun things we've done together as a company. All of our clients rallied around us and it was a lot of fun."

Coming together to start Baltimore's holiday season.
