Rawlings-Blake Donates Pay Raise To Youth Program

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake says she will direct her automatic pay raise this year to the city's Youth Works summer jobs program.

The mayor's office announced Monday that she will donate her 2.5 percent cost-of-living salary increase to the program that places teens in summer jobs. She declined last year's pay raise as well.

Rawlings-Blake earned about $155,490 in the last fiscal year. Her pay raise is about $3,900. The salary increase after taxes will be deducted from her salary in the payroll process.

The mayor says she's making the donation because of the city's dire financial situation as it faces another year of budget deficits. Rawlings-Blake also has reduced the budget for her office by more than 19 percent over the past two years.
