Bob Haynie: Turgeon Will Get It Done

It has not been a fun start for Maryland hoops coach Mark Turgeon and his 2011-12 men's basketball squad. The Terps were 1-2 in Puerto Rico and they head into the Thanksgiving holiday at 2-2.

After getting hammered by Alabama, Maryland did manage to defeat Colorado. Unfortunately, the Terps were drubbed by Iona to close out the Tip-Off Tournament in San Juan.

Turgeon was not real happy with his team's effort and desire to play as a cohesive unit.

It's one thing to be undermanned and that is certainly the case with this year's Terps. There were times in Puerto Rico that Maryland had three walk-ons on the floor at the same time. However, it's unacceptable to not play hard.

Eventually, Turgeon will make sure the players get that.

He will also get the talent level up to competitive standards.

7'1 Alex Len will be joining the club after sitting out another five games as mandated by the NCAA. Hopefully, PG Pe'Shon Howard will return from a broken foot at some point this season.

Next season, the roster will be bolstered by a Top 20 recruiting class.

It may be a long year for Turgeon and his team, but a return to the Top 25 will happen. Maybe as soon as 2012-13.

Mark Turgeon is a very good coach and he will bring Maryland back to college basketball prominence.

Be patient.
