Baltimore Named One Of The Best Holiday Destinations

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- With the big shopping weekend behind us, Baltimore is pulling out its holiday lights. Now Charm City's getting national recognition for some of the best displays anywhere.

Kai Jackson shows us what all the fuss is about.

Baltimoreans already knew their city was a great destination for the holidays. Thanks to a Yahoo.com travel article, now the rest of the world knows it, too.

There's good reason to be in Baltimore for the holidays. The city is charming locals and visitors alike with an amazing display of lights.

"The lights are gorgeous. It's my first time ever seeing it and I have to come back," said Lori Ardates.

In fact, an article posted on Yahoo.com's travel site says Baltimore is a must-see location right now. It lists the city as the #10 travel destination for the holidays and points to a variety of brilliant lights displays as the reason.

"It's a big deal but it's also accurate. We are one of the best places for holiday lights," said Tom Noonan, Visit Baltimore's CEO.

"I think that's wonderful. It's nice to have notoriety and know that all the hard work we put into doing this is finally showing up," said Rob Spriggs, Hampden.

With all of the lights, the Miracle on 34th Street is both a source of amazement and pride for Baltimoreans and one of the reasons it's been named a top 10 holiday destination.

There's the classic Santa House at Harborplace that children love, a new $400,000 laser light show at Power Plant Live and the ever-popular and nationally recognized light display, the Miracle on 34th Street in Hampden. It was prominently mentioned in the Yahoo.com article.

"They're pretty and I like Santa," said 6-year-old Kristina Wallace. "He's in the sleigh."

New York City came in first for holiday travel destinations.
