2 Hurt When Diesel Tanker, Car Crash In Westminster

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State police say two people were injured when a tanker carrying diesel fuel collided with a car in Westminster.

It happened about noon Wednesday on Route 140. Troopers say a tanker driven by Richard Eckard, 62, of Taneytown struck a car driven by Carl Frock Jr., 79, of Westminster that was trying to make a left turn in front of it.

The tanker left the road, went into the parking lot of a convenience store and fell on its side. It hit a large sign which pierced the tanker, which was carrying about 8,000 gallons of fuel.

Some of the fuel leaked.

Eckard and Frock were taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

The accident is under investigation.
