Md. Traffic Deaths Down 10 Percent
BALTIMORE (AP) -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says traffic crash fatalities in Maryland dropped 10 percent last year.
The figures, released Thursday, indicate there were 493 traffic fatalities last year, compared with 549 in 2009.
Christine Delise, spokeswoman for AAA Mid-Atlantic, tells The Baltimore Sun that more air bags, better anti-rollover technology, improved road signs and safe-driving campaigns contributed to the decline.
The NHTSA says a reduction in deaths in crashes involving drunken drivers is also a factor.
