Maryland-Baltimore County Outlasts Towson 62-58

TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- Ryan Cook scored 17 points and Chase Plummer added 13 points and 11 rebounds to help Maryland-Baltimore County beat Towson 62-58 on Saturday night.

UMBC (1-7) led for over 25 minutes before the Tigers used a 9-2 run to erase a 50-45 deficit and take a 54-52 lead on a Deon Jones layup with 2:32 to play.

But Cook was fouled on a layup on the ensuing possession and converted two free throws to tie the score with 2:10 left to play.

Cook was also fouled on Towson's next possession and made one of two attempts to give UMBC a 55-54 lead with 1:41 remaining.

Both teams struggled from the floor. UMBC hit 36 percent of its field goals (18 of 50), while Towson (0-9) made 36.5 percent (23 of 63). However, the Retrievers were 20 of 26 from the stripe, while the Tigers made only 8 of 25.
