Taylors Island Man Faces $28K In Fines For Oyster Violations

WINGATE, Md. (AP) -- Maryland Natural Resources Police say a Taylors Island man faces up to $28,000 in fines for oyster harvesting violations.

Police say Joshua T. Tieder, 23, faces 28 counts of harvesting undersize oysters, failing to tag oysters before leaving an oyster bar and exceeding the daily oyster catch limit of 12 bushels. The maximum fine for each violation is $1,000.

Police say officers observed Tieder leaving the Wingate Harbor boat ramp in southern Dorchester County with 14 bushels of oysters, which were later placed in a nearby marsh. Officers later determined 13 of the 14 bushels contained undersize oysters.
