Prince George's Police ID Man Killed By Officers

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County police have identified a 43-year-old man shot and killed by officers after he brandished a gun in the Capitol Heights area.

Police say James Henry Peoples was fatally shot on Valley Park Road on Wednesday by officers who were called to the area for a report of a person threatening suicide.

Police say officers saw a man leave his home with a handgun, and that he refused officers' commands to put down the gun. Authorities say the officers opened fire, striking the man.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave while officials investigate the shooting.
