Survey: BWI A Favorite Stop For Tech-Savvy Travelers

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- BWI-Thurgood Marshall Airport is on the cutting-edge when it comes to hi-tech travel. That's according to a new survey of tech-savvy travelers at the nation's airports.

Gigi Barnett explains why BWI is among the best.

BWI-Thurgood Marshall has all the right connections for tech travelers like James Buttleman.

"If you don't have at least one source of power, you're kind of left in the black," Buttleman said.

A new survey by PC World Magazine ranked BWI in the top 10 nationwide for tech-savvy passengers-- No. 9, to be exact. It's far ahead of other regional airports, like Reagan at No. 35, and Dulles at No. 37.

"We have really worked to provide excellent technology, amenities for our customers, whether it is WiFi, charging stations or cell phone coverage, throughout the airport," said BWI spokesman Jonathan Dean. "We have really important features for travelers these days."

The ranking comes as the holiday travel season is starting to take off, a time when travelers won't leave home without their technology.

"I actually have a 3-year-old, as well as a 6-month-old, which allows me to be able to figure out where changing stations are, where the food vendors are, a little bit quicker than trying to open up a paper map," Buttleman explained.

While BWI is first-class for USB ports, electrical outlets and good cellular service, it received a big ding for having the worst workstations. That is something the airport plans to improve.

The PC World Survey ranked New York's JFK as the second most tech-friendly airport and Dallas/Fort Worth is No. 1 among tech travelers.
