Baltimore Police Have Clue In Barbershop Shooting

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Fighting for his life. A local barber was shot during a robbery in his store. Now police have a new clue that could put the gunman behind bars.

Meghan McCorkell has the new evidence.

Police now have surveillance pictures of two men who may be involved in the shooting and they need tips to put them behind bars.

Police believe two men in the video fired the shots that left a local barber fighting for his life.

"This is a heinous crime. It's right here before the holidays. Taking somebody's money wasn't enough, but actually shooting them...I mean, it doesn't get any worse than that," said Detective Donny Moses, Baltimore City Police.

The owner of the Up Close Barbershop was inside his store last Wednesday when police say two men walked in and announced a robbery. Before they left, they shot the barber in the eye. He's still in critical condition.

But this week, there was a break in the case. Minutes before the shooting, two men were spotted inside a liquor store a block away.

"They were inside of that store, basically doing nothing. Possibly casing the joint," Moses said.

The men fit the description of the robbers witnesses saw run from the shop after the shooting.

WJZ tried to speak with business owners in the area, but they're too scared to talk until the gunmen are caught. One shop owner says he's changed his store hours and only lets in customers that he knows.

Police are making their presence known in the area, but many say it won't be business as usual until the two men are behind bars.

The shooting happened just before 7 p.m. along a busy road. Police are hoping someone driving or walking in that area may have more clues.

Metro Crime Stoppers is giving a reward of up to $2,000 for any information that leads to an arrest in this case.
