Va. Man Accused Of Ripping Off Md. Homeowners

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- A Virginia man is accused of ripping off several Maryland homeowners by falsely promising home improvement work.

Montgomery County Police say Karl Leroy Davis, of Alexandria, would meet with homeowners, promise to make home improvements and then cash a check without doing the work. Police say he wouldn't answer when homeowners tried to contact him.

The 42-year-old Davis faces charges including operating without a license, theft over $1,000 and failing to perform a contract. A District Court summons was recently issued for him.

A woman who answered the phone at Davis's house and identified herself as his wife declined to comment and said she didn't know anything about the allegations.

Investigators say the alleged scams occurred in Rockville, Silver Spring and Gaithersburg. They believe additional homeowners might be victims.
