NORTH BAY SHORE, N.Y. (AP) — A suspect has been arrested in Maryland in the deaths of a woman and her 2-year-old son whose bodies were found in a basement apartment on New York’s Long Island.

Suffolk County police say Jerry A. Lewis, 24, was arrested Sunday in Laurel, Md. in the deaths of  Shakeela Planter, 21,  and her son Jaiden Planter. They were found Friday in their apartment in North Bay Shore on Long Island.

Lewis will be extradited to New York at a later date. No information on an attorney was immediately available.
