WESTMINSTER, Md. (WJZ)—  The Westminster Police Department needs the public’s help with a Christmas Eve assault investigation.

The assault happened around 6:45 p.m. at West Green Street and Bond Street in Belle Grove Square.

The victim reported that he was approached by a group of about five young men as he walked through the park.  The victim was knocked to the ground and held down by members of the group.  During the assault one of the suspects cut the victim lightly on the stomach with a box cutter or similar object.

The victim suffered several small scratches on his stomach but did not require treatment.

Investigators believe that this was not a random assault and that the suspects knew the victim.

A $500 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for this assault.

Anyone with information relating to this investigation is asked to call Detective Eric Immler of the Westminster Police Department at 410-848-3918.
