BLOG: Above-Average Temps Give Way To Cold Air & Possible Snow

As we round out 2011, temperatures continue to run above average. We topped out at 52 degrees today and are going right back into the 50s again Saturday and Sunday. The average for the end of December is only 42 degrees. However, a dose of more winter feeling weather is heading our way next week.

A weak front is going to swing through the Northeast tomorrow. There is not a lot to this storm, especially on its southern side. So there is the chance for a couple of showers around here and that's it. This storm should leave us in time for all of the festivities Saturday night.

Then a second, much stronger storm will move our way later Sunday. There is not a lot of moisture with it, but much colder air will follow it. Highs will drop into the 40s still on Monday before not getting out of the 30s Tuesday and Wednesday. Overnight lows will bottom out in the 20s and teens. Gusty northwest winds bringing in this colder air could bring a few rounds of flurries.

Although this is going to be a very cold shot of air, it will not last very long. Highs will slowly start creeping up again late next week.

Have a safe and happy New Year everyone!
