Johns Hopkins Opening New $1.1B Building

BALTIMORE (AP) — Johns Hopkins says its new $1.1 billion patient care building is one of the nation’s largest hospital construction projects.

The hospital says its new building covers five acres, has 1.6 million square feet of floor space, two 12-story patient towers and 560 private patient rooms. The new building scheduled to open in April also has 33 state-of-the-art operating rooms and new adult and pediatric emergency departments.

Johns Hopkins says each patient room will have a private bath and sleeping accommodations for family members. Outside the rooms, sound-absorbing features and a quiet nurse call system are designed to promote a tranquil environment.

Still cheaper to stay @ a Marriott hotel.

    Dear B,

Having recently been totally immersed in the Hopkins environment for a period of 6 months, I cannot imagine staying at the Marriott or any other facility away from the Hospital and our little one. With the outstanding attention to family needs and excellent quality of care we received in a very old setting, I can only imagine how fantastic the new building will be.

I’m not so sure about cheaper in dollars. But, I do know that it will not be ‘cheaper’ for my peace of mind. When, and, if you have the opportunity to make use of the new facility, I hope you find that the Hopkins experience affords you the comfort and the skill it has provided for my family.
