Ken Weinman: My Take On Ray & Reed
There's been a lot of talk on our airwaves about Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. Whether they are hurting the Baltimore Ravens by being in the field. Should John Harbaugh bench them.
There are a couple of things here. First, no one beats father time. It doesn't matter who you're talking about in sports, from Willie Mays to Jerry Rice, eventually guys can't play at a high level anymore. That has a lot to do with what's going on with Lewis and Reed. Second, who are you going to replace them with? Before Ray got hurt, I actually thought he was playing well. He can't cover backs anymore but is still great against the run and has great instincts. Ed is a different story entirely. He seems reluctant to hit or tackle. Not good in a contact sport.
These guys are legends and are both going to the Hall of Fame one day, that said, one day you have to turn the page.
