Coppin State Defeats Howard 83-77 To End Road Skid

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Akeem Ellis scored 28 points and Coppin State won for the first time on the road in eight tries this season by defeating Howard 83-77 on Wednesday night.

Tony Gallo added 23 points for the Eagles (6-8), who won their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener. Coppin State made 29 of 33 free-throw attempts. Gallo hit 11 of 13 and the Eagles made 7of 8 in the final 1:01 to seal the win.

Howard (4-12, 1-2) led by nine points with 4:54 to play in the first half but the Eagles closed out the first half on an 18-3 run for a 42-36 lead at the break.

The game was tied three times in the second half before the Eagles went on an 11-0 run to lead 68-57 with 5:56 remaining.

Glen Andrews scored 25 points, and Simuel Frazier and Dadrian Collins each added 11 for the Bison.
