Ed Reed-Inspired Chicken Sausage A Big Hit With Ravens Fans

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Ravens fans are painting the town purple ahead of Sunday's game against the Texans.

Jessica Kartalija has more on the transformation underway around the city.

Fans are ready to tailgate on Sunday and the field is ready for action.

Before they hit the gridiron and fans take their seats, crews put the finishing touches on the field. Across town, Baltimore's own Roma Sausage on Eastern Avenue cranks out some 7,000 pounds of sausage with a Ravens twist.

So here's what happened: Ed Reed, who's a pretty health-conscious guy, came to Roma sausage and said, "I really like sausage, but I'd like a healthier alternative." Hence, the chicken sausage was born.

"Four varieties-- Sweet Italian, Hot Italian, Old Bay and Tuscan," explained Joseph McQuay, general manager of Roma Sausage.

Here's a pretty safe bet: the sausage is going to be a hit.

Football fans love it.

"I love Ed Reed chicken sausage. I was very excited about it," Pastor James Sharp said.

Speaking of excitement, fans say come Sunday, Reed and the Ravens will kill those Texans.

"Oh, a landslide!" one Ravens fan predicted.

"I think they are very good right now, and I just hope Flacco does what he gotta do. And Ray Rice comes to play, and you know what? Go Ravens!" said one person.

You can get the Ed Reed chicken sausage at any local grocery store in Baltimore.
