BLOG: Chilly Now But Mild Weather Returning In A Few Days

The winter chill has returned to Maryland, but only for a few days.

This is statistically the "dead of winter" - the climatologically coldest stretch of the year. The average high is 41 degrees and the average low is 24 degrees. After spending a lot of time above that average, we were below it Saturday. We only made it to 38 degrees Saturday afternoon. The cold air is going to stick around for the rest of the weekend, with highs only making it to the mid 30s again Sunday. When you factor in the wind both afternoons, the wind chill has made it feel about 10 degrees colder than it even was.

However, as chilly as it may feel, milder air is returning very soon. Highs will get back to around average on Monday, then close to 50 on Tuesday as a new storm moves our way. With the warmer push ahead of it, this will be a rain event. It will move away early Thursday, dragging some colder air in once again behind it.
