Knorr Brake's Md. Expansion Could Bring 60 Jobs

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- A company that makes brakes and doors for passenger rail cars is starting work on an expansion of its Westminster plant that is expected to add 60 jobs by 2018.

Knorr Brake Corp. held a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday at the factory. It currently employs about 230 people.

U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski says the expansion will enable Knorr to meet increased demand for safer rail cars. Mikulski says she helped secure $450 million in federal funds for safety upgrades after the Metro crash that killed nine people in Washington area in 2009.

The Carroll County Times reports that Knorr decided in April to expand in Westminster rather than move the plant to Hanover, Pa.
