2 Children Die In Cumberland, Md. House Fire

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office says a house fire that claimed the lives of two children in Cumberland started in the living room.

The agency says 7-year-old Paige Ford and her 4-year-old sister Jymera died Friday morning. They were on the second floor of the rowhouse on Harrison Street.

Spokesman Bruce Bouch says their mother Tandra Ford suffered smoke inhalation injuries.

He says an 8-month-old baby boy and four other occupants escaped unharmed.

Bouch says six firefighters were treated for injuries but none were life-threatening.

The fire was reported shortly after 6 a.m. Bouch says it caused fire and smoke damage to at least one other house in the row of five.

He estimated property losses at $200,000.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
